Geographical formation: The Gold Coast  is situated south of  Brisbane in South East Queensland. It stretches from the Albert River in the North to  the Queensland border in the South approximately 56 km [35 miles], and extends from the coast to the foothills of the Great Dividing Range. [commonly referred to as the Gold Coast Hinterland]. 23 million year old Wollumbin/Tweed volcano. Just 30 km inland from the Gold Coast shoreline the land rises to 900 m above sea level.
