I worked with Robert Turner as a vet in the 1960’s. The surgery was located on the Pacific Highway in Pymble, Sydney. Robert Turner was also a very active Alderman and he worked for years on establishing a riding trail from Sydney to Cairns. Very few people have actually completed the entire journey on horseback. As the trail meanders through properties and forests where there is no car access, supplies have to be taken along on pack animals. Gold Coast Polo Club Australian polo captain Glen Gilmore believes more people now understand polo – according to the Age newspaper. There has definitely been a huge increase in spectators attending polo games over the past few years. Most of the players are farmers and horse lovers, so here in Australia at least it is not seen as a sport reserved for the aristocracy.
